The University of Thessaly, with 37 Departments, and 8 schools is a University with its own identity and with a prominent position in Greece’s national educational system for 43000 students. The Laboratory of Entomology & Agricultural Zoology (Professor’s Athanassiou group) covers a broad range of research subjects related with Entomology and in particular with the biology, ecology and management of insect pests at pre- and post-harvest stages of agricultural production. Indicatively, it has participated during the last five years in numerous international and national competitive research projects with a total budget that exceeds ten (10) million Euros.

Christos Athanassiou
Christos Athanassiou (PI) is PhD in Agricultural Sciences. He is a Full Professor at DACPRE with expertise in insect pest biology and control, through chemical and non-chemical methods, for species that occur in agriculture, forest, post-harvest and urban ecosystems. He is/has been project coordinator/team leader in several national, European and international projects, funded by different bodies (Horizon 2020, LIFE, MED, USDA, IAEA, etc.), and by the industry (Syngenta, BASF, Bayer etc.). Christos Athanassiou has received several awards (USDA-FS, Fulbright, OECD etc.), and serves as an expert of different international organizations (FAO/UN, USAID, IAEA etc.)
